Amalia | Inspired by Nature

As a photographer, being creative and flexing the right side of my brain is pretty typical. While it's one of the things I enjoy most about this profession, it's easy to forget that I still need a creative outlet that stems from my own imagination.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love working with clients to ensure their vision comes to life. It's extremely fulfilling to collaborate with another person or team and end up with a gallery that everyone is in love with. But I'm realizing that it's also just as important to satisfy your own creative vision.

So recently, I reached out to a friend to model along with an awesome hair and makeup artist I met through the 'gram to see if they'd want to participate in a styled shoot I'd been concocting in my head. I was envisioning a gorgeous dress in a natural, almost ethereal setting. Thankfully, they were in! I pinned inspiration pieces, created a mood board to ensure we were all on the same page and we set a date and time.

The morning of the shoot, it was a bit more chilly and overcast than I was hoping (given I was wanting our model, Amalia, to submerge herself in water) but otherwise everything went smoothly. Amalia was glammed up and we headed out to shoot.

Some highlights include me stepping in a fire ant hill and not realizing it until my shoe was covered in ants (I got the shot though so...worth it) and Amalia literally turning blue from the icy water (you're a champ).

See below for my favorite photos from that day. Feel free to drop any questions or thoughts about this session in the comments section below. I'd love if you link me some of your own creative passion projects too!
